Instrument operation steps:
1. Connect the ignition coil to be tested and the detector according to the instructions.
2. Plug in the external power supply of the instrument. If the ignition coil is 12V, connect it to 12V power supply. If the ignition coil is 24V, connect it to 24V power supply.
3. Press the button to start the ignition coil. If you want to detect the working conditions of the ignition coil at various speeds, adjust the speed button.
Coil type ignition coil test steps:
(1) Connect the positive terminal of the ignition coil to the positive terminal of the IG80 coil socket;
(2) The three-wire ignition coil ground wire is connected to the IG80 modular socket ground wire (the two-wire one has no ground wire);
(3) Connect the IGC signal line of the ignition coil to the IGC of the IG80 coil type socket;
(4) Plug in the external power supply of IG80, the power indicator light will be on, and put the high-voltage end of the ignition coil (insert the spark plug port) close to the high-voltage discharge needle, about 10MM away;
(5) Press the IGC button and the ignition coil starts to spark. Rotate the speed knob to change the spark frequency. By observing the spark strength and spark distance, you can judge the quality of the ignition coil. Generally, for a 12V ignition coil, in the air, the spark gap can be Up to 10-12mm, 24V ignition coil, flashover gap up to 15mm.
Modular ignition coil test steps:
(1) Connect the positive terminal of the ignition coil to the positive terminal of the modular socket of IG80;
(2) The ground wire of the ignition coil is connected to the ground of the IG80 modular socket;
(3) The IG signal line of the ignition coil and the IG connection of the IG80 modular socket;

(6) If there is no flashover, check the signal amplitude switch. Most modular ignition coils select 5V signal amplitude. A few ignition coils such as Mercedes-Benz require 12V signal amplitude. IG80 has an internal output protection circuit, even if the signal amplitude is selected incorrectly It will not damage the ignition coil.
