The locator itself does not have the direct function of connecting to the internet. However, it assists in the positioning process by sending Bluetooth signals to nearby Apple devices. These signals will then upload the location information to the iCloud Find Network.
The entire process is encrypted to ensure the security of the location information. Therefore, as long as there is an Apple device with the “Find” function enabled within a 10-meter radius of the locator (such as an iPad, iPhone, or Mac), the locator can update its own location.
2. For which areas is it suitable?
It is generally suitable for use in urban areas with high foot traffic, or in areas with a large number of Apple devices. Remote areas or places with few Apple devices are not suitable.
3. Does the locator have any distance limitations?
There are no distance restrictions. It is globally available. As long as there is an Apple device within 10 meters of the locator, it will work because it cannot locate itself; instead, it relies on nearby Apple devices for positioning.
4. Is the locator real-time?
There are nearby Apple devices that can achieve real-time positioning, and the more devices there are, the more accurate the positioning will be. Without an Apple device, positioning cannot be achieved until an Apple device is nearby.
5. Do I need to download the app?
For the Apple version, there’s no need to download the app. The app is the “Find” feature that comes pre-installed on the Apple device.
